In the petrochemical industry, monoethanolamine is used to remove acid gases such as hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide, which can cause corrosion in downstream refinery equipment through alkanolamine treatment. It is used in the manufacture of cosmetics (as an intermediary), as a purifier of natural gas since it eliminates hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide. Other applications take place in the textile and pharmaceutical industries, in the manufacture of emulsifiers, polishers and corrosion inhibitors.
